Skill appreciation; the public is no measure

Joshua Bell

Real long article that was linked to me. It’s about an experiment conducted by the Washington Post with Joshua Bell, where this virtuoso, armed with a Stradivarius, would go play in a metro station and see if people would gather around him. The results are surprising: despite the fact he is a world-class classical musician who can generate thousands of dollars per hour in concert halls, he only manages to get $40 in one hour while playing to a general public.

Interesting points on perspective, skill, public, music played, and the reactions from a man who played in front of royal figures to end up ignored by Mr. Anybody.
